She Failed The Boards Three Times!

She Failed The Boards Three Times!

She Failed Boards Three Times! 😌

Yes, you’ve seen it right. Let us see what happened next, read her story! πŸ‘‡

My name is Kelsey Bender, from West Liberty University, and I graduated last 2019. πŸ₯³

My hobby is flipping/refurbishing furniture. I choose dental hygiene because I always wanted to join the world of health care. When I was in high school I went through a dental assisting course and loved it and decided to further my career and become a Dental Hygienist. 🦷

I graduated from West Liberty in May of 2019 and took my NBDHE two weeks after I graduated. Sadly, I scored a 73% and failed my exam, this was the last Board I needed to pass in order to obtain my license. πŸ₯Ί

I waited and I was able to retest and sadly scored a 73% yet again! 😩 This time I decided I needed to reach out and do more than just study on my own. I attended a couple Board Review conferences and felt as though this was going to be it and I was going to pass (third time the charm)! 🀞

However, about a week before my test, I got really sick with a head cold and was miserable. I still went and took the Board but I was miserable being stressed and sick. This time I was closer but still did not pass as I scored a 74%. One point away from my license was so heartbreaking and I was devastated! 😭

After being unsuccessful for the third time I decided I really needed to find extra help. πŸ™

I signed up for Varsity Tutors and StudentRDH. I had a tutoring session every week, which I could watch back, and review whenever I wanted and needed. My tutor was amazing and really helped me in the subjects I was really struggling in! Then I attended the webinars and used the live learning platform on StudentRDH. πŸ™Œ

Then, one day while I was attending a webinar, Claire informed everyone that the new form of the NBDHE was a short format due to Covid. πŸ”Ž

Thank goodness I was on that webinar because if not I am not sure I would have even known. The nerves began to worsen as my exam was getting closer and now it was a shorter exam (I couldn’t even pass the normal one how would I ever pass a shorter version). I went in March and took my exam for the fourth time. Two weeks later, the email came through that my results were in and my heart sank. πŸ’Œ

β€œI felt like the Wake-Up Memory techniques on StudentRDH really helped me retain the information and material I needed in order to pass the NBDHE!.” 🧠

I was soooo nervous to open that email. Thank goodness I did though because I FINALLY PASSED!! I was so excited and I am now able to begin my career as an RDH and I could not be happier! πŸ₯³ I want people to know that everything happens for a reason and never give up on your dreams! 🀩

β€œIn order to become the person you’re meant to be, living the amazing life you’re meant to live, sometimes you have to go through hard times. Sometimes you have to be broken down so that you can learn, grow, release, re-calibrate. When times are tough, remind yourself that what is happening to you is happening for a reason.”

My future plans in dentistry? I just recently accepted a job as a full-time Registered Dental Hygienist in Leonardtown, MD. Shout out to West Liberty University Class of 2019! πŸ€“
